Take Me Home Celtic Thunder, a performance rather than a band, was created by Sharon Browne and composed and orchestrated by Phil Coulter as a modern study of Celtic music, falling more on the pop-dance side of the spectrum than the traditional side. The show, which was staged, recorded, and filmed in Dublin in August 2007, featured five male vocalists, Damian McGinty (then 14 years old), Keith Harkin, Paul Byrom, Ryan Kelly, and George Donaldson, who alternated leads through a set of traditional and contemporary songs, several of which were written by Coulter. Decca released a CD and DVD of the event in 2008. Take Me Home, the quintet’s second album from 2009, included traditional Irish and Scottish ballads sprinkled with a few pop/rock covers, while It’s Entertainment, released in 2010, focused only on mainstream pop songs. Heritage, released in 2011, saw Celtic Thunder return to their origins with a mix of new and classic songs. Paul Byrom departed before the album was finished, despite having recorded a number of songs for it; he was replaced by Emmet Cahill, but both men feature on the recording. Storm, a full-scale theatrical performance, followed in 2011, with Voyage and Voyage II in 2012, and Mythology, the group’s ninth album, in 2013. In March of 2014, Celtic Thunder singer George Donaldson died of a heart attack at his home in Glasgow, Scotland. Colm Keegan, Keith Harkin, Ryan Kelly, Emmett O’Hanlon, and Neil Byrne reuniting with guest musician — and Glee! star — Damian McGinty for a live performance honoring the impact of Irish and Celtic music across the globe was released in February 2016. In August of that year, Legacy, Vol. 2 was released, with the same lineup and focusing on hits and fan favorites. Emmet Cahill’s Ireland, a compilation of Irish classics performed by Cahill, was released by Celtic Thunder in early 2017. The trio published Inspirational a few months later, which included covers of famous Christian songs by Elvis Presley, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, and Alison Krauss.
