Cheat Codes, a Los Angeles-based electronic group, creates floor-filling, radio-ready pop-friendly house in the style of the Chainsmokers, Seeb, and Sigala. With successful songs including “Sex” with Kris Kross Amsterdam, “Feels Great” with Fetty Wap and CVBZ, and “No Promises” with Demi Lovato, they gained a solid fanbase in the late 2010s. The latter song became their first Top 40 hit in the United States and was certified platinum in the United States, Australia, and Europe. They released a constant stream of songs to keep their position on the Dance charts, with many of them appearing on their EPs Level 1 and 2. Hellraisers, Pt. 1 was the group’s first full-length album, published in 2021.
Cheat Codes formed in the 2010s, influenced by artists like as Avicii and Swedish House Mafia. Each of the group’s three members, Matthew Russell, Trevor Dahl, and Kevin Ford, grew up in Los Angeles and worked on their own projects before forming Cheat Codes (Dahl used to act as singer/songwriter Pluginstereo). Cheat Codes’ stylistically diverse sound, which ranges from soft pop to outright huge house bangers, is influenced by their diverse origins. They soon followed up “Visions” with the tropical-tinged “Don’t Say No” (featuring Dresses), “Senses” (containing Lostboycrow), and “Adventure” (including Lostboycrow) (featuring Evan Gartner). They joined the Chainsmokers on tour after gaining recognition on social media and spins on streaming platforms.
Additional Cheat Codes songs were released in 2016, including the Top Ten, multi-platinum “Sex” starring Kris Kross Amsterdam and the U.K. favorite “Let Me Hold You (Turn Me On)” featuring Dante Klein. The following year, they released “No Promises,” their greatest feature to yet, featuring Demi Lovato on vocals, and began on the No Promises global tour, which took them throughout the United States, Europe, and Australia. The song was awarded platinum in Australia, the United States, and Europe, giving the group their first Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 entry. They followed up their Lovato smash with Fetty Wap and CVBZ’s “Feels Great” and Kiiara’s “Put Me Back Together.” In 2018, the group produced remixes for high-profile songs by Thirty Seconds to Mars (“Dangerous Night”), U2 (“Love Is Bigger Than Anything in Its Way”), and Sean Paul (“Balenciaga”), while maintaining their visibility with singles like “NSFW” with Danny Quest and “Balenciaga” (“Mad Love”). “Only You,” a duet with Little Mix, earning them another platinum award in the United Kingdom.
Following the release of their first official EP, Level 1, they collaborated with Kim Petras on the songs “Home” and “Feeling of Falling.” In 2019, they released Level 2, a sequel EP that included guest appearances from Trixie, Afrojack, Kaskade, and others. Two of their 2020 singles, “Stay” with Bryce Vine and “Washed Up,” charted on Billboard Dance, and they began the following year with another Top 40 Dance success, Lil Xxel’s “No Chill,” off their first full-length, Hellraisers, Pt. 1. Tinashe (“Lean on Me”), Au/Ra (“Wish It Was Me”), Marc E. Bassy (“Do It All Over”), and CXLOE were among the artists included on the sunny set (“Between Our Hearts”).
