Hedi Lamarr was an Austrian and American film actress and inventor. Lamarre played in many popular feature films, including Algérie (1938) with Charles Boyer, Je prends cette femme (1940) with Spencer Tracy, Comrade X (1940) with Clark Gable, Venez vivre avec moi (1941) with James Stewart, H.M. Pulham, l’écuyer. (1941) with Robert Young and Samson and Delilah (1949) with Victor Mather.

Lamarr was born in 1914 as Hedwig Eva Maria Kisler in Vienna, Austria-Hungary. He is the only child of Gertrude Labor Kisler (née Lichtwitz; 1894-1977) and Emil Kisler (1880-1935). His father was born into a Jewish family in Lviv (now Lviv, Ukraine) and was a successful bank manager.

After an early and short film career in Germany, which also included a controversial love scene in the film Ecstasy (1933), she ran away from her husband and secretly settled in Paris. During her stay, she met the head of MGM Louis B. Mayer, who offered her a contract to shoot a film in Hollywood, where she became a movie star from the late 1930s to the 1950s.

When Lamarr first married, she became interested in applied science and, bored with her acting career, used this knowledge as an inventor. At the beginning of the Second World War, in an attempt to help the Allies in their war, she identified the Axis powers’ interference with Allied radio communications as a particular problem and, together with the composer George Antheil, developed frequency tuning and frequency hopping technology to overcome this.

Although the U.S. Navy only adopted this technology in the 1960s, its principles are now embedded in modern Wi-Fi, CDMA and Bluetooth technologies, and this work has led to its introduction in the National Hall of Fame for Inventors in 2014. The 9th. In November 2015, Google’s search engine placed a scribble to mark its 101st anniversary. His birthday; the little scribble also contained a small film about his life.
