Jeanette Biography, Songs, & Albums |

Corazón de Poeta Jeanette was a renowned Spanish pop singer in the 1970s and 1980s, with a succession of hit songs, the most famous of which being “Porque Te Vas.” Janette Anne Dimech was born in London, England, on October 10, 1951, and raised in the United States. She went to Barcelona with her mother, who was of Spanish descent, when she was 12 years old, and learnt the language. She became interested in American folk music (e.g., Bob Dylan and the Byrds) in the 1960s and started creating her own songs. With the band Pic-Nic, she released a series of generally unsuccessful singles (“Cállate, Nia,” “Amanecer,” “Me Olvidarás”) and a full-length album Pic-Nic in 1967-1968. (1968). After Pic-Nic disbanded in the early 1970s, she launched a solo career, scoring her first big single with “Soy Rebelde” in 1971, a song composed by Manuel Alejandro, with whom she would subsequently work on other successes, most notably the album Corazón de Poeta (1981). When “Soy Rebelde” was published, the label misspelled her name as Jeanette (rather than Janette), but the song was such a smash success that the error became her official stage name. “Estoy Triste” (1972), “Palabras, Promesas” (1973), “Porque Te Vas” (1974), “Hoy Nos Hemos Dicho Adios” (1975), “Todo Es Nuevo” (1977), “No Digas Buenas Noches” (1978), and “Voy a Tener un Nio” (1979) were among the singles produced during the decade (1978). Palabras, Promesas (1973), Porque Te Vas (1976), and Todo Es Nuevo (1977) were among the albums released (1977). Her biggest hit was “Porque Te Vas,” which became a worldwide sensation when it was used in the award-winning film Cra Cuervos (1976). Over the years, several cover versions of “Porque Te Vas” were produced. In 1981, Jeanette teamed up with Manuel Alejandro (the composer of “Soy Rebelde”) on the album Corazón de Poeta, which included the smash singles “Corazón de Poeta” and “Fronte a Frente.” She continued to release albums and singles throughout the rest of the 1980s, including Reluz (1983), Ojos en el Sol (1984), and Loca por la Musica (1989). However, her career came to an end in the 1990s, despite the fact that she remained popular and her back catalog was repackaged into a steady stream of greatest-hits compilations.

Jeanette is a Spanish singer-songwriter who is best known for her songs “jeanette porque te vas” and “Amor de mis amores”. She was born in Madrid, Spain on July 4, 1978.
