Jerome Derradji Biography, Songs, & Albums |

Jerome Derradji, a DJ, producer, compiler, and label operator, began playing records at the age of 15 and was initially influenced by jazz and soul. House music captured his attention in the end of the 1990s. In the year 2000, he relocated from his home France to Chicago, Illinois, where he worked as an import buyer for Dr. Wax. Derradji founded Still Music in 2004 as a platform for music that he believed wasn’t receiving enough attention. Still issued singles and albums by producers from all over the world within a few years, however the label had a particular fondness for Detroiters, including recordings by Rick Wilhite, Delano Smith, and Paul Randolph.

The American Boogie Down Derradji established Past Due and Stilove4music as sublabels as his reach expanded to include reissuing rare disco, funk, and house, performing his own re-edits, and promoting other artists. He also worked on more complex projects, such as The American Boogie Down, a two-disc set published in 2008 on BBE that included a DJ mix of reissued material as well as a disc of unmixed choices. 122 BPM: The Birth of House Music, Kill Yourself Dancing: The Story of Sunset Records Inc., Bang the Box!: The (Lost) Story of AKA Dance Music, and The House That Jackmaster Hater Built, among other compilations released by Still, were deep dives into the rich dance music history of his adopted hometown.
